My name is David Swan and John Wellington was my great-grandfather. I created this site because I want to promote and share his art with family and friends. It has also been a wonderful opportunity for me to discover and appreciate works that I am unfamiliar with.

I knew John Wellington as a child, and I remember visiting him many times at his house on Washington St. in Cumberland, MD with my mom and dad. My brothers and I always enjoyed those visits, it was like going back in time. His house had all sorts of interesting stairways, nooks and crannies, and a big cast iron tub with claw feet. He had a lift chair mounted on the stairway due to the stroke he had suffered, and he let us ride it up and down whenever we wanted to. There were train tracks just a couple doors down which we would bolt for as soon as we heard a train chugging along. We liked the paintings but as children we were probably more interested in all the painting paraphernalia in his studio and around the house. I wish I gotten had know him better, but I am thankful for his vision of the world and his talent for sharing it with us.
